Middle of the road.

Billed as a duo rather than a group these turns tend to sing a wider range of songs with something to please all age groups. Songs from the 60s up to the late 90s nothing from todays charts!
I am sure it's going to be solo artists or duos for us from now on, easier on the ears.

The Club.

The group Mahogany Newt.

Another trial, it's not an age thing I have never liked hard rock heavy metal head banging music and I have not changed. I am not going to go to the club anymore to see a band for a long time!
I will go to see solo artists and duos or anyone that sings with backing tapes, music that I can understand.
There were many people in the club that appreciated the group but many people also walked out during the performance us two being amongst them.

There are lots of clubs to choose from in the area, drinking alcohol is an option none alcohol drinks are available.
Drink driving is frowned upon and very costly if you are caught over the limit. It is wiser and safer for all to drink pop and leave alcohol alone.
Drink driving offense carry an automatic minimum twelve months driving ban and a fine.
Don't drink and drive is the message.

Not so good.

I've had a bumper crop of lemon cucumber from the greenhouse, it's the first time I have grown them and the last. They look like lemons about the same size but taste like cucumber. The good thing about them is they don't cause indigestion (much).
The big fault with them for me is the seeds, I don't eat seeds if I can avoid them I don't eat buns with sesame seeds on.
I cleaned them out like a pumpkin, the skin is really tough not nice to eat.
Then I fancied them up a little, just too much messing about for me, that's the last I will see of Lemon Cucumbers into the bin they go!

Final push

Today that grotty wall and rotten gatepost have to go, the gate is to be swung from this side to open outwards.

 Showing the wall no mercy
The gatepost had really been put in well but it came out in the end.

Picking my next job, to be done at a later date.
Again working between showers we completed the job, me and my technical adviser and cameraman  Steven.

Before and after.

Job done.

Yesterday was stormy, wind and rain no chance to do anything so I took the day off.
Today promised sunshine and the odd shower, as there was plenty of blue sky between the rain clouds I risked getting stuck in. The old bath came in handy to mix the mortar in (never throw anything away too soon).
Halfway through Una called me the dinner was ready so I knocked off for half an hour.
Then straight back to work, pointing up and finished.
Next job, taking the gatepost out knocking the grotty bit of a wall down and re-swinging the gate.
I can't wait, then again I might take Una for a day trip somewhere!
My dad told me a man that works for nowt is never out of work, true words dad but money is no good to me.

At it again.

Making use of the old coal bunker.
First job cutting a new door hole in the side, then I will brick the original door hole up. In yorkshire language the coal bunker is called a coal hole pronounced coil oil.
The door hole likewise is pronounced dooer oil.
After marking it up with a plumb line I start cutting the 4" thick concrete wall, it's a mucky job but the only way it can be done.
 Time to take stock.
Yes I could see through the goggles but only just.
The cutter only cuts 3" deep so I had to attack the wall from both sides inside and out.
Not being able to cut the corners out caused a bit of a problem so I drill them and left them in place to trim up later.

 Just sorting the corners.
 Ready for the door frame.
 A bit more drilling.
Fixing bolts.

Old door on, needs a bit of titivating up but it will do for the time being.
Bricks for the old door hole are ready just need mortar, that's the next job.
After that the old wooden gate post and crappy bit of wall are coming down, neither are any part of my handy work a blind man would have made a better job of it.

Workingmans Club.

Wednesday night in the local club not very busy yet but it will fill up before the turn gets on stage.
I was determined to go out for a drink it's what we do here when we have something to celebrate.
The group Guitars & Stripes were the turn this week, not too loud just about right.
They could certainly play good guitar but they needed a vocalist.
The more you drink the better they get, strange that!
