There and back.

Sunday first full day, the weather was none too promising so we decided on a low walk, wellies on and waterproofs at the ready. It wasn't long before we were garbed up for the rain, it turned out to be just a short shower. We did an eight mile hike over grass land and marshes, I do NOT usual do marshes, but a detour would have sent us miles out of our way also we didn't want to turn back. The marsh bit was very scary for me, I had visions of never been seen again!

Monday a beautiful day, started at Wrynose Pass went up and over the tops to the Old man of Coniston. On the way we passed a memorial to a Halifax Bomber Crew that crashed there in 1944. Eight young men from the Royal Canadian Air Force. The cairn below is not the memorial,
I have put that on a separate post.

This is not the top of the Old Man, this is another cairn on the way there, it was another eight mile stroll there and back to the car.

Tuesday a low walk, the weather looked a bit iffy. Waterproofs at the ready we set off for a walk around Tilberthwaite Fells, it wasn't long before they were on. Once I put my waterproofs on I rarely take them off, the weather has to really buck up for me to do that!
Below our first pit stop of the walk about three hours into it.

Wednesday overcast and cold went to Bowness on Windermere for the best part of the day, then rode up to Kirkstone Pass. We got out of the car to check the conditions but it was too cold and windy to even consider walking anywhere. It was nice to have an easy day.

Thursday weather OK but we stayed low, walking round Lingmoor Fell and Little Langdale, another full days walking.

Friday nice weather, walked from Elterwater to Grasmere the shortest stroll of the week. Visited the village church and the burial site/grave of William Wordsworth. All in all we've had a good week.

Posting the postcards Tuesday near Dungeon Ghyll, must keep in touch with the world.

Looking towards Bowfell and Stake Pass.

A dry bit on Sundays walk, which way shall we go?
