This time from Meadowhall to Sheffield. Much further than the other one so much so that we had to stop at Attercliffe for a meal.
In the background is the M1 Tinsley Viaduct.
The offer of a lift, no thanks we're walking.
There are eleven locks in total between Tinsley and Sheffield.
A little bit of wild life two Mallards and a couple of Koi carp.
The water used to be so contaminated with industrial waste, now it's almost perfect.
Some people live in these barges year long.
At this point we crossed over to the other side.
Joggers and pushbike riders also use the paths.
I have totally lost count of the bridges we went under.
At this point we were in need of food, having no idea where we were we veered off our walk and found civilisation to our surprise we were in Attercliffe. When I was a young man this was as close to Sheffield as was need be, it was a fantastic shopping area much better than Sheffield.
Sadly it has all changed everything has gone.
Una tucking into Ham off the bone chips and eggs, a pot of tea and bread and butter.
We found a Cafe in what used to be the most fantastic department store I have ever been in, they sold everything anyone could want. The store has been closed some years now but the building still bears the name Banner.
Back to the canal and our journey to Sheffield.
Years ago and not so many the banks of this canal was the home of lots of industry, the remains of some can still be seen.
Fishing the canal is now free, the bank used to be divided into sections owned by different clubs and associations but due to Health and Safety rules and public liability insurance costs they all decided to relinquish ownership.
Nearing Sheffield we come across boat yards that turn out new narrow boats, rule of thumb they cost roughly £1000 a foot.
One last bridge.
Journeys end.
Return trip to Meadowhall by tram.
Next stop home.
