The Heart of Rotherham.

Unveiled last week a tribute of the towns link to the Steel Industry the heart of steel.
Yesterday Tata announced 700 jobs in the Rotherham Steelworks are to go, almost half the work force.
Next week I will have been retired 15 years, and it will be 10 years since the mill I worked in closed.

Retford Nottinghamshire.

 The market square.

Wetherspoons for dinner, The Dominie Cross strange name for a pub, no idea of the origin.
 Ice cream later.

 A stroll round the Park.

Ice cream then home.

Cucumber growing.

This is the first time I have grown Cucumbers they are so easy to grow I can't believe it.
They do take up a lot of space

The speed at which they grow is fantastic. Well worth growing.

Downton Abbey visits Cannon Hall.

Some of the costumes from the BBC TV series Downton Abbey.

Moorcroft Pottery, Cannon Hall has the second best collection of Moorcroft in the world, after the Moorcroft factory collection.

At this point Una told me that videoing and photography is not allowed! I can not count the number of times I've told her to stop reading things out to me. Sometimes it's best not to know.

Rotherham to Meadowhall by canal.

The lock outside Rotherham Court House, for us the start of the walk.
The first of the many bridges on route.
This is were the canal and the river Don meet up again.
At this point of the walk we use a cantilevered footpath.
I don't know why but it always seems to be the womens job to operate the sluices and open the lock gates.

Two different types of barge, a narrow boat and a broad beam barge.
Broad beam barges used to be made at Waddingtons boat yard Swinton, that's a yesterday story.

 Holmes Lock.

This is were the river Don and canal part company.
 Meadowbank sewage works pipe bridge.

This is as far as we can get on this part of the walk.

This is the way but it is not the towpath, it takes us around the Meadowhall sewage works, under the Tinsley Viaduct and on to Meadowhall Shopping Mall.
A very aromatic part of the walk.

Meadowhall and a bite to eat.
