Set 1/1/13.
One week after setting the seed.
I've started my onions off on my bedroom windowsill where it's nice and warm. I'm hoping for giant show onions, it's the first time I've grown this particular type.
Three weeks after setting. Onions grow doubled up at first then one end pops out of the compost and in a couple of days they are twice the size they were. When they are strong enough to handle I will pot them on into 3"pots. Then depending on what time of year it is or how fast they are growing will determine whether I plant them in 5"pots or directly into the allotment.
Giant onions look good but they don't store well, so I will also plant some ordinary run of the mill onion sets.
Things we see and do.

Snow and ice.
Barnsley top ring road.
The main roads are really good but the side roads are pretty much like the pavements, treacherous.
The snow & ice grips that easily attach to my shoes are a must, they work a treat no slipping or sliding.

First snow this Winter.
Only about an inch but enough to bring the country to a stop usually. This time we had fair warning and the roads were gritted over night.

Getting Magpies to flit.
The tree on the left took twenty three years to grow but only one hour to cut down.
Just reached the Magpies nest, it filled the wheelie bin when we got it down to ground level.
Taking the top off the tree then slowly coming down taking two foot sections at a time off until we get down to the required height.
Down to the last section.
Just taking a four foot section off the christmas tree, I might take the whole thing down this summer but there's no rush.

Today at our front door.
This is what greeted us when we came home from shopping. A Sparrowhawk eating a Collared Dove! This is the first time I've seen a Sparrowhawk their diet is mainly birds.

2013 All's Well.
Happy New Year to everyone.
I hope this year we will do more and have more fun and blog more.
Adventure is the name of the game this year. But what to do? I've done everything I want to do which leaves me with the things I don't want to do like :-
Fly in a jet plane, skydive, go up in a hot air balloon, bungee jump, snow board, ski, scuba dive, eat another big mac noooooo.
I'm going to do what I've done before. I enjoyed it the first time, time to do it again!
BUT SLOWER.
