Chatting in iGoogle

Chatting in iGoogle This is another trial and does not mean that I am ever going to use this system, technology fascinates me.

A good do.

Catherine and Prince William.
Now known as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
The throng on The Mall.
On the balcony at Buckingham Pallace.
We were not there, but we had a good seat in front of the TV.

The Washington Window.

Selby Abbey contains a rare and famous feature: a 14th century Washington Window. The window shows three red stars above two red bands on a white shield which are the charges on the Washington family Arms and the model for the American flag: the Stars and Stripes. It was General George Washington, later President George Washington, 1st President of the United States of America, who held this coat of arms which became the footprint for the creation of a new flag for the newly formed country.

Selby Abbey, Easter Monday.

Tea and coffee for sale, just one way of getting people to come inside.

Selby Abbey has stood on this spot for almost a thousand years.

The craftsmanship in these old Abbeys and Churches is marvelous,
could it be done today? Yes! But how did they do it then?

There are very few practicing christians in England nowadays.

Selby swingbridge 25/4/11.

The railway bridge in the distance is also a swingbridge.

Not so long ago this was a toll bridge, the owners and workers lived in these
houses.

Precision built the bridge swings 90' to allow large ship to travel
up the River Ouse.

Good Friday.

Another fine day 78'F, roaming round Nostel. This must be the hottest April
we've had for years. Wall to wall blue sky again.
Before we started the walk we called at the Cock and Crown Inn at Crofton
for a meal, they do a real good carvery good food, and good value.

Bumblebee hard at work.
Wisteria coming into bloom.
Una amongst the magnolia trees.
Magnolia flower.

Rhododendron are early.

Rhododendrons in my back garden.
April as been so warm so far, all the flowers are coming out early.
Around here rhododendrons usually flower mid May, we are having
really fabulous weather, it's even fooling the plant life!

Dandelion digging.

Before.

After.
Monday morning I went up to the allotment to dig out the dandelions before
I rotavated the plot.
Dandelion roots go down really deep well over a foot, there seemed to be
thousands. After three hours of digging I had got them all out, but I have
suffered for it since.
I'm getting too old for this game, the aches and pains last far too long.

Derwent Dam.

Yes, I got Una into the countryside, 24 miles from home and we are in
the Peak District of Derbyshire.

There were no midges so all went well, she is a midge magnet they eat
her alive, I can't blame her for not wanting to country walk!

The Derwent Dam, this is where 617 squadron (dambusters) practiced there
bombing runs prior to the raids on the Ruhr Valley WW2.

Roadside cottage.
This is where the waterwheel was positioned.
Just looking at the size of the thing!
